NYCRUNS Big Apple Marathon
The NYCRUNS Big Apple Marathon is a USATF certified marathon held on Governors Island in New York. The course consists of slightly under nine loops of the island, with each loop just under 3 miles, and functions as a Boston Marathon qualifier.
The event includes ferry rides for entrants and their guests, a race tech shirt, post-race refreshments including fruit and bagels, and a finisher medal. Bib pickup and the Festival Area are a short walk from the ferry terminal; the Festival Area houses bib and shirt distribution, bag check, portable bathrooms, and post-race fluid and snack stations. Race-day photos are available, with one image marked for free download and discounted photo packages sold in advance.
Start corrals are assigned by pace and noted on the race bib; corral placement uses the pace set in a runner’s NYCRUNS profile. Bag check requires a single clear bag (18 x 24 in); staff may inspect bag contents. Water and electrolyte fluids are available on course.
Handcycle and wheelchair athletes are advised not to register because of the high number of turns on the course. Registration is limited to a few hundred entries and may close early if capacity is reached. NYCRUNS members receive a 10% race discount and optional bib mailing when registered at least 20 days before the event and to U.S. addresses.
Results and awards will be posted and emailed after the race; awards are offered to top overall and age group finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
