About the race
UNRWA USA's Gaza 5K walk/run is a recurring community event established in 2012 that combines a timed 5K run and a noncompetitive walk. The event brings members of the American community together to show solidarity with refugees in the Gaza Strip and raises funds to provide mental health counseling to children suffering from PTSD and other ongoing trauma. The event is described as family friendly and attracts people of all ages, including runners, walkers, and those who want to support Palestine refugee children. Some editions offer both in-person and virtual participation; a Bay Area edition is listed for San Francisco with Lake Merced Park as an in-person location.
Registration for in-person participants includes a timed race bib that can be kept as a memento. Fundraising perks are offered but may change based on availability.
