UNRWA USA's Gaza 5K walk/run
UNRWA USA's Gaza 5K walk/run is a community fundraising event established in 2012. The event brings members of the American community together to show solidarity with refugees in the Gaza Strip and to raise funds for humanitarian support.
The walk and run focus on generating resources for mental health counseling for children who are suffering from PTSD and other ongoing trauma. The event is described as family-friendly and attracts participants of all ages, including runners and walkers.
The Gaza event is offered in two formats: in person at Lake Merced Park in San Francisco, CA, and virtually. The published date for the Bay Area gathering is Sunday, September 13. In-person registration has included a timed race bib that participants keep as a memento, and fundraising perks have been listed as subject to change based on availability.
Organizing and promotion are handled by UNRWA USA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports UNRWA through fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement in the United States. Past editions of the Gaza 5K have been documented in a photo archive, with volunteer photographers and videographers involved in capturing event images.
