About the race
The Hot Cocoa Crush event offers timed 5K and 10K runs at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens with in-person and virtual participation options. The course starts and finishes on the north side of the Queens Theater and uses repeated loops: the 5K is two loops and the 10K is four loops of the 5K course. Runners must pass through the finish-line timing mats for each loop to record accurate split times and synced photos.
On-site amenities include an informal bag check area in the race staging zone, bathrooms within a few minutes' walk, and porta-johns near the finish line. Hydration is provided at the finish, and refreshments and hot cocoa are supplied by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. Live online, email, and text results are provided, along with same-day finish-line photos.
A virtual option allows participants to cover the distance remotely and submit a time online; virtual entrants have from the event start day through one week afterward to post a time and may upload up to five photos. Bibs can be mailed for an additional fee; mailed bibs require earlier registration to guarantee delivery and virtual bibs are mailed when race gear is available.
Age-group recognition is recorded online for top finishers in overall and in standard age brackets from 14 and under through 90+. Proceeds benefit the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
