Tactical Endurance Event at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
The Norwegian Foot March, also known as the Norwegian Ruck March, is a military endurance event hosted at WPAFB. This march dates back to 1915, when it was established to test the stamina and mobility of soldiers in the Norwegian military. The event is open to both military and civilian participants.
Participants must complete a specific distance while carrying a weighted pack:
- 18.6 miles (30 km)
The event enforces strict standards for gear and timing. All participants must carry a rucksack weighing at least 25 pounds (11 kg) throughout the entire course. The weight is verified at both the start and the finish line. Weighted vests are not permitted as a substitute for a rucksack, though they may be worn in addition to the required pack.
Attire requirements vary by participant type. Military members are required to wear an approved field uniform with military-grade boots. Civilians must wear long pants and boots, and their clothing must meet a minimum weight requirement of 3.3 pounds (1.5 kg). Completion time limits are based on age and gender categories. For example, men aged 21-34 must finish within 4 hours and 30 minutes, while women in the same age group have a limit of 5 hours and 15 minutes.
