Event Details

The North Tyneside Trail Run is a multi-terrain trail run over approximately 12 km. The route starts on the beach at Watts Slope and finishes on the running track at Churchill Playing Fields. It takes in Whitley Bay beach, coastal clifftop paths to Seaton Sluice, the trails of Holywell Dene, and the Waggonways. The 2026 edition will direct all participants across the beach section. Runners have a choice of which hill to ascend in Holywell Dene.

Race HQ is the North Shields Poly clubhouse at Churchill Playing Fields. Toilets and changing facilities are available there. The start line is a 10-minute walk away at the War Memorial at Spanish City on the seafront.

After the race, hot and cold drinks and baked goods like cakes, scones, flapjacks, and brownies are available for purchase at the clubhouse. Race numbers must be collected on the day from Race HQ, which opens at 8:30 AM. Participants receive a buff instead of a medal. The entry limit is 600 participants. On-the-day entry is not available.

Facilities

Available facilities include toilets, changing facilities, and a baggage store. There are no water stations, distance markers, or showers on the course. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
