Event details

The AJ Bell Great North 10k takes place on 5 July 2026 in Newcastle. The event is a 10k city-centre road race open to runners aged 15 and over on the day. Saver and final entry prices are shown on the organiser’s entry page, and a booking fee of £3.00 per entry is applied at checkout. Waves are allocated by estimated time and runners may assemble with a later wave but cannot move to a faster wave.

Route and race format

The race starts and finishes on Great North Road and runs through the city centre, crossing the Tyne Bridge and passing several city landmarks. The course profile includes a first couple of kilometres that are downhill, a 1.5 km flat section, about 4.5 km of twisty uphill running, and a final flat 2 km to the finish. Road closures will be in place for the event.

Facilities and extras

The event village is located on the Town Moor. Baggage facilities are provided on the Town Moor with labelled baggage procedures. Race numbers containing timing chips are posted 1-2 weeks before the event; late or overseas entries collect numbers from the information point. Event-day tracking is available via the Great Run app. Finishers receive a medal, an exclusive finisher t-shirt (optional at entry), and a finisher’s bag; official photos and the event results are available after the race.
