AJ Bell Great North 10k
The AJ Bell Great North 10k is a city centre road race in Newcastle that follows a measured 10k route. The course starts and finishes on Great North Road and includes a crossing of the Tyne Bridge and passages past city centre landmarks such as Grey’s Monument. The route description notes the first four kilometres are fairly straightforward road running, kilometres 4 to 6.5 pass through the city centre, there is a short stretch along the Central Motorway, and the final three kilometres include uphill running along the edge of the Town Moor.
Event day features include a DJ at the start and finish, music stations along the course, crowd support in the city centre, and an event village on the Town Moor with food and entertainment. Runners receive a Great North 10k medal, an optional finisher t-shirt, and a finisher’s bag; run numbers are personalised with the participant name. Official event day photos and results are available after the race.
Practical information published for entrants: race numbers with timing chips are posted from about four weeks before the event; entries secured on or after 24 June must collect race packs at the event information point; race packs are not posted outside the UK. Baggage facilities are provided on the Town Moor. Participants must be aged 15 or over. A free Great Run event app offers live tracking, split times and photos.
