Event Overview
The North Port Firecracker July 4th 5k takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026. It is held at Wellen Park High School. The event includes multiple activities: a chip-timed 5K run, a 1 Mile walk, and a Virtual 5K run option.
Registration and Fees
Online registration is required. The 5K and 1 Mile walk registrations start at $10. Day-of registration for the 5K is $50. Registration for participants 16 and under starts at $20. A special $10 rate is noted for those who have registered within the last ten years, though running club discounts do not apply to this rate. Registration closes 15 minutes before the race begins.
Event Details
Packet pickup on race day opens at 6:15 AM. The 5K run starts at 7:30 AM. Awards begin after the last runner finishes. Strollers are permitted in the 5K run but must start at the back. The 1 Mile fun walk is not chip-timed.
Post-race amenities include finisher ice towels for all participants, a finisher's gift for children under 14, and food for runners with a bib. Food items include a breakfast snack, bananas, Icy POP's, and snack bars. All participants receive a free menu item card to Chick-fil-A Port Charlotte.
Awards and Charity
Awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in age groups in 5-year increments. Overall awards are custom made for categories including Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters, and Veterans. Age groups range from 12-under to 80-above. All proceeds after expenses go to the Wellen Park High School cross-country and athletics programs.
