Event overview
The NorCal Backyard Ultra takes place in early November 2026 at Beals Point, Folsom Lake, Granite Bay, California. The event is run in a Backyard Ultra format with two options: a Last Person Standing event that continues until one runner remains, and a "Mini" Last Person Standing that ends after 12 hours.
Course and format
Runners complete a loop of roughly 4.2 miles (listed as 4.16 miles in race details) each hour. Each lap has about 300 ft of elevation gain. At the top of each hour, runners must start the next lap and finish the previous lap; missing the start at the top of the hour results in disqualification from further laps. Live tracking is provided for both event options.
Aid, awards, and other details
There is one aid station at the start/finish under a tent offering water, hydration mix, light snacks, and warm food. There are no aid stations on the course and on-course crew aid is not allowed. Participants are encouraged to bring their own aid area (tent, chair, food) near the start/finish. All finishers receive a NorCal Backyard Ultra quarter zip and a custom wood award based on miles completed; the top finisher receives a custom wood plaque. The event also offers a donation-matching program that can provide future race discounts when donations are made to selected nonprofit partners.
