NorCal Backyard Ultra

The NorCal Backyard Ultra is a multi-event trail challenge held at Beals Point near Folsom Lake in Granite Bay, California on October 23 and 24, 2026. The core format requires runners to complete a repeated loop of 4.16 miles each hour; a runner who fails to start the next lap on time is out of the race. The Last Person Standing event continues until only one runner remains.

A weekend Mini Last Person Standing offers a contained option that ends after 12 hours or 50 miles, whichever comes first. The planned course includes roughly equal parts road and smooth trail and the loop carries about 320 feet of elevation gain per lap. There are no aid stations on the course; a single aid area is provided at the start and finish with water, hydration mix, light snacks, and warm food. Participants may set up personal aid areas near the start finish and will be assigned parking near that area.

All participants receive a NorCal Backyard Ultra quarter zip and a handcrafted wooden award that corresponds to distance completed. Distance recognition categories include:

  • 13 miles
  • 50 kilometers
  • 50 miles
  • 100 kilometers
  • 100 miles

Prize money will be awarded, including a named award for the Last Person Standing. The event also includes a community donation program that matches participant donations up to a set amount. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
