NorCal Backyard Ultra - October 23 - 24, 2026
The NorCal Backyard Ultra is scheduled for October 23 and 24, 2026, at Beals Point near Folsom Lake in Granite Bay, California. The event includes two linked races: the full Last Person Standing format and a 12-hour Mini Last Person event that is limited to 50 miles.
Format and course
The event uses a repeating lap format. Each lap is approximately 4.16 miles and must be completed within the hour; runners begin a new lap each hour and are eliminated if they are not present to start the next lap. The Last Person Standing continues until only one runner remains. The Mini runs the same loop but ends after 12 hours or when a runner reaches 50 miles, whichever comes first. The planned course combines roughly equal parts road and smooth trail around Folsom Lake; the final route and elevation profile may change due to construction.
Awards and logistics
All participants receive a quarter-zip and a handcrafted wooden finisher award tied to distance. Distance finisher categories include:
- 13 miles
- 50 kilometers
- 50 miles
- 100 kilometers
- 100 miles
Runners who complete 100 miles or more also receive a bronze finisher belt buckle. Prize money includes at least $400 for the Last Person Standing and $100 for the Last Female Standing. There are no on-course aid stations; a fully stocked aid station will be at Beals Point. Participants are assigned a nearby parking spot and may use a grassy area near the start/finish as a personal aid station. Equipment rentals (tables and tent packages) are available for an additional fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
