Event Overview
The 22nd Annual NM Chips and Salsa Half Marathon takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 13, 2026. This autumn event features a variety of distances held on a new, fast, and flat loop course that traverses the scenic North Valley and Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. The race is held at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI).
Distances
Participants can choose from several competitive and non-competitive options:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile race with a 3.5-hour time limit.
- 10K: A 6.21-mile running race.
- 5K: A 3.12-mile run or walk.
- Kids K: A 1-kilometer run for participants aged 11 and under.
- Virtual Options: Virtual versions of the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Kids K are available for those unable to attend in person.
Course and Support
The course consists of a flat loop through local valley scenery. Seven fluid stations providing water and electrolyte drinks are positioned approximately every 2 miles along the half marathon route. Restroom facilities are available at the start and finish areas, as well as at the 6-mile mark. Medical personnel are stationed at the finish line and various points along the course.
Amenities and Awards
All participants receive an event shirt. Finisher medals are awarded specifically to all Half Marathon finishers. The event includes an awards ceremony where top overall performers and age-group winners are recognized. Age-group categories range from under 19 to 80+ for the longer distances, while the 5K includes additional categories for younger children. A portion of the event proceeds supports RunFit, a nonprofit organization providing running programs for children in New Mexico.
Regulations
The event is timed using electronic devices attached to the participant bibs. Strollers and baby joggers are permitted only in the 5K event and must start at the back of the pack. Wheeled devices such as skateboards, rollerblades, and bicycles are prohibited for participants. Dogs are not allowed on the SIPI property.
