Night Wolf 5K/10K
The Night Wolf event is the fourth annual running of two trail races at Shelter 2, Wyandotte County Lake Park in Kansas City, KS. The event offers separate 5 km and 10 km trail races and an option to enter both as a combined distance of 15 km with separate prizes for each race and an overall combined award.
The course layout revisits earlier routes. The 5 km uses a familiar course with a short extension to reach the full distance. The 10 km runs the trails in the opposite direction and follows an older course that reaches the triangle and returns. Trails are described as bridle trails rather than groomed mountain bike trails; conditions can vary and past years have included extreme mud and water. Estimated elevation gain is about 500 ft or more for the 5 km and about 650 ft or more for the 10 km. The 5 km does not require a headlamp, while the return leg of the 10 km will require one for navigation in the dark.
Logistics note: parking and packet pickup are at Shelter 2, and both races start at this location. The event includes overall winner awards for each distance and for the combined entry, a random prize drawing, a small piece of swag, and a summer party with pizza and beverages after the races.
