Newcastle Cross Country - King of the Mountain
The King of the Mountain is a 25 kilometre out-and-back endurance run along bush track and fire trails from the top of Mt Sugarloaf down to Wakefield and returning via the same trail. The event date for 2026 is 27 June and entries are scheduled to open in April 2026. Registration and payment close the Friday before the event. Competitors must be 18 years or older on the day and must wear the identification bibs supplied, visible at each checkpoint. Cut off times apply: two hours to the halfway point at Wakefield and four hours to the finish at Mt Sugarloaf.
Aid stations on course are stocked with coke, water and bananas. Professional first aid and medical support are provided on course and at the registration desk. Hot soup is available at the finish line. Run finisher medals are presented to the first three places for King and Queen at the conclusion of the event, and mystery prizes are offered for entrants. Entry is free for members of NXC; non-members pay an entry fee of $100. An accommodation option is mentioned about 13 km from the run start and finish.
