New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K Run/Walk
The New York Harbor Oyster Classic is a 5K run/walk held on Governors Island in New York Harbor. Governors Island is accessible by boat only; the ferry operates between the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street, Lower Manhattan) and Soissons Dock on Governors Island, with a crossing of about eight minutes. Nearby transit options to the Battery Maritime Building include the 1, R, 4 and 5 subway lines and several bus routes.
Race facilities on the island include bag check and toilets near the start and finish area, water tables with cups at the start and finish, and water filling stations along the course. Spectators and finishers are met at the finish with bagels, cream cheese and fresh fruit. All finishers receive a Fishers Island oyster and a handmade Oyster Finisher medal. All registrants receive a camping mug. Bagels and cream cheese are donated by NY Bagels.
Registration details note a bib mailing process with shipping beginning 4/20; entries after 4/27 require bib pickup on race day. Registrations can include a personalized race number or team name when completed at least three weeks in advance. The event is held rain or shine and registration refunds are not available.
Proceeds benefit the NY Harbor School PTA and support the school’s programs focused on restoring New York Harbor and training students in maritime and environmental fields. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
