New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K Run/Walk
The New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K Run/Walk celebrates its 10th anniversary on Governors Island. The event is held on a car-free island in New York Harbor, which is accessible only by boat. Participants must board a ferry from the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan to reach the start and finish line located near the New York Harbor School.
The event offers the following distance:
- 5 km run/walk
Participants who register at least three weeks in advance receive a personalized bib with their name and, if applicable, a team name. Registration includes bib mailing for those who sign up early, while those registering later can collect their bibs on the morning of the event. On-site facilities include a bag check and toilet stations.
Water stations are located at both the start and finish areas, and participants are encouraged to bring their own bottles to use the water filling stations along the course. At the finish line, refreshments such as bagels, cream cheese, and fresh fruit are provided. All participants earn a handmade oyster finisher medal and a camping mug. Additionally, all finishers receive a Fishers Island Oyster.
Proceeds from the event support the New York Harbor School PTA, which funds programs dedicated to restoring the waters of New York Harbor and training students in maritime and environmental sciences. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
