New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K Run/Walk
The New York Harbor Oyster Classic is a 5K run and walk held on Governors Island. The island is accessible by boat only and the ferry operates between the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan and Soissons Dock on Governors Island. The ferry trip is approximately eight minutes and runners are required to use the designated ferry service. On the island, directions mark the route to the NY Harbor School and the start and finish area, where bag check and toilets are available.
Amenities include water tables with cups at the start and finish areas and water filling stations along the course. Finishers receive a Fishers Island oyster and a handmade oyster finisher medal. All registrants receive a camping mug. Finish area refreshments include bagels, cream cheese and fresh fruit.
Awards are given to the top overall male and female and to top age group finishers in the following categories: NY Harbor students 18 and under, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. The event runs rain or shine and registration refunds are not offered.
All proceeds directly benefit the NY Harbor School PTA and support the school’s programs focused on restoring New York Harbor and training students for roles including pilots, divers, engineers, marine technicians, climate change specialists and marine biologists.
Bib mailing begins April 20. Registrants who sign up after April 27 must pick up their bib on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
