About the race
The New York Harbor Oyster Classic is a 5K run/walk on Governors Island, which is accessible by boat only. The island ferry connects the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan with Soissons Dock on Governors Island; the crossing takes about eight minutes. On arrival, directions to the NY Harbor School and the start/finish area are posted nearby. Bag check and toilets are available in that area, and bag check is not responsible for lost valuables.
Race-day amenities include water tables with cups at the start and finish and water filling stations along the course. Finishers are met at the line with bagels, cream cheese and fresh fruit. All registrants receive a camping mug and all finishers receive a Fishers Island oyster and a handmade oyster finisher medal. Bagels and cream cheese are donated by NY Bagels.
Awards are given to the top male and female overall and to top male and female in age groups that include NY Harbor students 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. Registration is not yet open; registration will open prior to the event. Registration includes bib mailing, with bib shipping beginning 4/20; registrants who register after 4/27 must pick up their bib on race day. Team names can be added to bibs when registration is completed three weeks or more in advance.
All proceeds benefit the NY Harbor School PTA and its programs focused on restoring New York Harbor and training students in marine fields. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
