New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K Run/Walk
The New York Harbor Oyster Classic is a community 5K run and walk held on Governors Island. The island is accessible by boat only; the ferry operates between the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan and Soissons Dock on Governors Island, with a short crossing time. Runners are expected to use the designated ferry service to reach the island. Bag check and toilet facilities are available near the ferry landing and the start and finish area.
On course and at the venue there will be water tables with cups at the start and finish and island water refill stations. The finish area supplies bagels, cream cheese, and fresh fruit. All finishers receive a Fishers Island oyster and a handmade Oyster finisher medal. All registrants receive a camping mug.
Awards are given to Top 1 F/M/N overall and Top 1 F/M in the following age groups: NY Harbor Students 18 & Under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
Event proceeds benefit the NY Harbor School PTA and support the school’s programs, including efforts to restore New York Harbor and to train students in maritime fields such as piloting, diving, engineering, marine technology, climate work, and marine biology.
Registration is not yet open. Registration includes a bib mailing; bib shipping begins 4/20 and entrants who register after 4/27 must pick up their bib on the day of the event. Live online and same-day results, free video, and finish line photos are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
