The New Year's Day 5K takes place on January 1, 2026, in Reston, VA at Browns Chapel Park, 1525 Browns Chapel Road. The event includes these distances:
- 5K
- Virtual 5K
Pre-registered participants receive a commemorative New Year's Day 1/4 zip, a unique race bib, post-race snacks, free race day photos, and a digital finisher certificate. Race photos will be free to download after the event; participants are asked to keep their bib visible for photo tagging.
Registration, timing and logistics
Entry for both the live 5K and the virtual 5K is listed at $45, with the price increasing after December 6, 2025. Packet pickup is available at =PR= Reston, where participants can collect bibs and related items. The live race will be electronically timed by Commonwealth Race Management using the ChronoTrack B disposable tag system. Results will be posted after the race on the event results page.
Awards in the live race will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups from 14 and under through 80 and over.
