New England Green River Marathon
The New England Green River Marathon is a road marathon that starts in Marlboro, Vermont and finishes at Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The course follows the Green River, passes through an 1870s covered bridge, and concludes with a finish-line area shaded by maple trees on the college grounds.
The course is USATF certified with code MA18003JK and has a net elevation drop of about 1,400 feet over a rolling, predominantly downhill profile. The route has produced personal best performances and Boston qualifying times for well-trained runners.
The event includes standard marathon entry options and fundraising entry options. One fundraising option, called the Stream Team, asks participants to raise an additional $250 to benefit the Connecticut River Conservancy; those funds support efforts to restore and advocate for clean water, healthy habitats, and resilient communities across the watershed. Other fundraising partners associated with the event include the Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club and Unite 2 Fight Paralysis. As listed for this edition, fundraising efforts had raised $22,780.00.
