Event
The Nature Park 50K Trail Race is a one-loop trail race held in Chattanooga, TN. The advertised distance is 50K. The venue is Enterprise South Nature Park, a 2,800-acre area that was formerly part of a U.S. Army munitions manufacturing facility and still contains about 100 concrete TNT storage bunkers.
Course and venue
The course begins with a half-mile road section before joining the wide Poe Run trail. At 3 miles the route moves onto well-maintained horse trails and passes one of five aid stations stocked with snacks and drinks. Around 11 miles the race follows pedestrian-only trails for about five non-technical miles. The course returns to mountain bike trails near the start/finish around mile 16, runs through one of the concrete bunkers at mile 17, and finishes with approximately 15 miles of rolling single-track trails.
Enterprise South Nature Park is heavily wooded and described as mostly undisturbed habitat for wildlife such as turkeys, deer, hawks, coyotes, raccoons and various reptiles. The park also includes picnic areas, restrooms, a dog park, a disc golf course, play areas for children and pump tracks for biking. Registration closes the day before the event.
