Narrow Way
Narrow Way is an annual race organized by the Allegany County FCA to raise scholarship funds for students to attend local and regional FCA camps. The event has been held since 2019 and offers multiple participation options for a range of ages.
The course follows the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail through a steep-sided valley west of Cumberland called The Narrows. The start and finish are located in front of the stage at the Canal Place Festival Grounds, a public space at the intersection of the C&O Canal Towpath and the GAP Trail. Most of the GAP Trail is crushed stone; a paved section extends about 2.5 miles between Cumberland and the trestle bridge west of the Narrows.
Distances:
- 10K
- 5K
- 1K fun run/walk
The 1K fun run is not timed; children under 11 may register for free on race day but will not receive a t-shirt. Student pricing is available for the main races. Team entries are allowed; a minimum of three team members must finish to record a team result, which is based on the top three finishers per team. Team photos will be taken for the Allegany website. Registration opens April 7 and closes October 11. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
