Nail the Rail Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, Shasta Lake, CA
This event is held at the base of Shasta Dam on a converted Southern Pacific Railroad corridor known as the Sacramento Rail Trail. The route runs along the Sacramento River and Keswick Lake and is described as very flat.
The program offers the following distances:
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- 10K
- 5K
Field size is limited to 500 participants. The half marathon has a cutoff of 3 hours 15 minutes. Finisher awards are given to half marathon participants; age-group awards are three deep plus overall awards.
Packet pickup and registration occur the day before the race at Redding Fleet Feet Store, 1376 Hilltop Dr., and there is race day registration and packet pickup at the Chappie OHV area. The start and finish use the Chappie OHV area at the base of Shasta Dam; after crossing Shasta Dam the course follows the road down to the OHV area.
Registration opens on June 30, 2026 and closes on January 2, 2027. Published registration fees are $69 for the half marathon, $39 for the 10K, and $29 for the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
