Event Overview
The Nail the Rail event takes place in Shasta Lake, California, and features three distinct distances for participants to choose from:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K
- 5K
The course utilizes the Sacramento Rail Trail, a converted Southern Pacific Railroad track. This path begins at the base of the Shasta Dam and extends for over 11 miles. The route follows the Sacramento River and Keswick Lake, providing views of the water. The terrain is described as very flat and fast.
Logistics and Location
The start and finish lines are located at the Chappie OHV area at the base of Shasta Dam. To reach the site, participants cross the Shasta Dam and follow the road down to the OHV area. The field for this event is limited to 400 participants. Packet pickup and registration are available the day before the race at the Redding Fleet Feet Store on Hilltop Drive, or on the morning of the event at the OHV area.
Recognition and Timing
All finishers in the Half Marathon distance receive finisher awards. Overall awards are presented alongside age group awards, which are given to the top three finishers in each category.
