Trail Running at Camp Hart
The Musser Madness Endurance Race takes place at the Hart Scout Reservation in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania. The event is hosted within a rustic Boy Scout camp situated along the Unami Creek, providing a setting characterized by preserved open spaces and natural surroundings. Participants navigate a course that primarily consists of double-track technical trails, supplemented by some single-track sections. The terrain includes hills and various natural elements such as tree roots, rocks, dirt, and mud, with significant tree cover providing shade throughout the routes.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- 12 hour race on a loop of approximately 6.2 miles.
- 6 hour race on a loop of approximately 6.2 miles.
- 4 hour race on a shorter 2 mile loop featuring easier trails around the main section of the camp.
- 6 mile hike for those preferring a non-competitive pace.
- Virtual participation option where proceeds support local scouting activities.
The event provides one aid station stocked with water, Gatorade, soda, fruits, and carbohydrates. Hot food is also prepared for participants during the event. Regarding logistics, parking is located approximately 1/4 mile from the start and finish area, though runners and crew members are permitted to bring vehicles closer to the loop access point for convenience. All participants are required to be off the course by early evening.
The trail conditions and specific loop distances are subject to change based on local land conditions. Following the endurance events, a separate treasure hunt activity is organized at the camp on the following morning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
