Distances
- 5 km loop
- 10 km (two 5 km loops)
- 5 km fun walk
Course and format
The course is a scenic 5 km loop on grass and gravel with rolling hills and double-track trails. Canicross 10 km participants complete two loops. Canicross racers start in small waves to space teams for safety. Race kit pick-up is available on site.
Gear and participation rules
Canicross participants must use sport-specific gear: a padded waist belt, a 1.5–2 m bungee line, and a pulling or sport harness for the dog. Standard leashes and collars are not permitted in canicross categories. Organizers may move teams to the fun walk if gear is not appropriate. Dogs must remain on leash at all times, maintain distance from other teams, avoid on-leash greetings, and handlers must pick up after their dogs. Reactive dogs are allowed and may use a yellow marker to signal extra space.
Fundraising and sponsors
Proceeds go directly to Hamilton Animal Services’ adoption program for medical care, behavioural support, enrichment, and outreach. The event lists multiple local sponsors and fundraising teams, and displays current fundraising totals and goals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
