Mullaghcarn Giant Race
The event is a NIMRA medium-distance mountain race organised by Carmen Runners at Gortin Glens Forest Park, Omagh. The course covers 12 km with approximately 500 m of total ascent and includes a summit of Mullaghcarn (542 m).
The route leaves from the Gortin Glens car park and traverses upland terrain, including boggy sections; trail shoes are advised. The course will be clearly marked and marshals will be stationed along the route. Timing is electronic using SPORTident SI cards; all competitors must return their SI cards to race control at the finish area whether they complete the course or retire.
Race numbers are restricted to 200 entries and entry is online only; entries will not be accepted on the day. The minimum entry age is 17. Entry fees are listed as £13 for affiliated runners and £15 for unaffiliated runners.
A list of essential kit is specified for fell running and must be carried as required by the organisers. Typical required items include a hat or buff, gloves, waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, waterproof bottoms with taped seams, foil blanket, fully charged mobile phone, whistle, emergency food, and a means to carry the kit. Walking poles and headphones or earbuds are not permitted under NIMRA race guidelines.
Runners who retire should report to the nearest marshal if possible, take the safest direct route back, and report to race organisers at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
