MTC Spring Heeled Jack overview
The MTC Spring Heeled Jack is a single-day ultramarathon of approximately 38 miles that follows the same route used for the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances. The course runs from The Kings Arms Hotel in Penrith to the Premier Inn in Lancaster. The event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge and is listed as Day 2 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day series.
Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors with an additional allowance of 20 Albion competitors, creating a maximum field of 40. All entrants must be aged 20 years or over on the start day. The organisers enforce preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this threshold may be warned and subsequently withdrawn.
Finishers receive a bespoke Spring Heeled Jack medal; male and female champions will also receive trophies currently in design. The event is cup-free, so competitors should use a reusable cup. Route maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants and are emailed approximately four weeks before the race. Each competitor is issued a tracking device with live tracking and an SOS function.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
