MTC Spring Heeled Jack : race overview
The MTC Spring Heeled Jack is a single day ultra covering 37.7 miles. It is run on the same route used by the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances, and it also serves as Day 2 of the thirteen day MTC ALBION end to end of England series. The route starts at the Kings Arms Hotel in Penrith and finishes at the Premier Inn in Lancaster.
Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 places for ALBION entrants giving a maximum of 40 starters. All finishers receive a bespoke Spring Heeled Jack medal and male and female champions receive trophies. There is an optional race package that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi vis jacket.
Safety, navigation and cut offs
The organisers provide tracking devices with real time tracking and an SOS function. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants only and are emailed approximately four weeks before the event. The race is cup free so entrants must bring a reusable cup. The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors falling below this requirement may be withdrawn. Organisers may remove any competitor they consider unfit to continue.
Entry, kit and rules
Entry fees are non refundable. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack.
