Event overview
The MTC Hairy Hands is a single-day ultra run organised as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. The organiser lists the race distance as 53 miles. The course follows the same route used by the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances and forms Day 11 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day end-to-end of England. All finishers receive a bespoke Hairy Hands medal; male and female champions also receive trophies.
Route, entry and rules
The route runs from Crediton through to Liskeard, starting at Union Road Moto Velo and finishing at Premier Inn, Haviland Road, Liskeard. There are pre-determined check points in North Tawton, Okehampton, Brentor (Tavistock) and Callington. Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for ALBION entrants (maximum 40). Entrants must be 20 years or over on the race day. The event enforces a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup.
Maps and GPX files, plus tracking devices with SOS buttons, are provided to entrants prior to the event. Entry fees are non-refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option is available at booking. A mandatory kit list includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food pack and a basic first aid kit.
