MTC Hairy Hands : event overview
The MTC Hairy Hands is a single-day ultra run listed at 53 miles and presented as Day 11 of the MTC Albion thirteen-day end-to-end of England. The route runs from Crediton to Liskeard, following the same course used by the organiser's MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances. The event records an ascent of 4,360 ft and a descent of 4,162 ft and is the first edition of this race.
Competitor numbers are restricted to 20 entries plus an additional allowance of 20 Albion competitors, giving a maximum of 40 participants. The organiser applies preset cut-off times based on a minimum required average of 4.0 mph; participants who fall below this threshold may be warned and can be withdrawn if the shortfall continues. The organiser may also withdraw any competitor considered unfit to continue.
All finishers receive a bespoke Hairy Hands medal; male and female champions will receive trophies. Maps and GPX files are distributed only to entrants, typically emailed four weeks before the event. Entrants are provided with a tracking device that includes an SOS function and real-time monitoring.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The race is cup-free; competitors are expected to bring a reusable cup. Entry options include a standard entry and a plus package with clothing, subject to lead-time requirements. Entrants must be at least 20 years old. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
