MTC Hairy Hands
The MTC Hairy Hands is an ultra marathon distance event set in the southwest of England. The route covers approximately 54 miles, starting at Union Road Moto Velo in Crediton and concluding at Liskeard. The course features an elevation gain of 4360 ft and a descent of 4162 ft.
This event serves as a standalone single-day race and also functions as Day 11 of the "ALBION" challenge, a thirteen-day end-to-end journey across England. Because of this, independent participants run alongside those completing the multi-day series. The route follows the same path as the established JOGLE race but is organized with lesser daily distances.
The race utilizes a series of four check-points located at North Tawton, Okehampton, Brentor, and Callington. These stations provide various food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, and sweets. This is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels to access liquids at the stations.
Finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and trophies are awarded to male and female champions. Mandatory equipment for all participants includes:
- 54 miles
Participants must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph throughout the course. Each runner is provided with a tracking device for monitoring progress and as a safety measure. Registration is limited to 20 independent places, with an additional 20 spots reserved for challenge series competitors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
