MTC Hairy Hands - Ultra Running
The MTC Hairy Hands is a single-day ultramarathon listed at 53 miles. It forms Day 11 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day end-to-end of England and follows the same route used by the MTC JOGLE event with reduced daily distances. The course runs from Union Road Moto Velo (EX17 3AL) and finishes at the Premier Inn, Haviland Road, Liskeard (PL14 3PR).
Entry is limited to 20 race competitors with an additional allowance of 20 ALBION entrants, for a maximum field of 40. The organiser enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; preset cut-offs apply and competitors falling below this threshold may be withdrawn. All finishers receive a Hairy Hands medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Entry options include a standard ultra fee and a plus package that adds an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket.
Maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants, emailed about four weeks before the event. Competitors are tracked in real time using devices supplied by the organiser; the devices include an SOS function. The race is cup-free so runners must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first-aid kit and emergency food.
