MTC Hairy Hands
The MTC Hairy Hands is a single day ultra held as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and also forms Day 11 of the MTC Albion thirteen day end to end of England. The route follows the same course used for the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances and covers about 50 miles from Crediton to Liskeard, starting at Union Road Moto Velo and finishing at the Premier Inn on Haviland Road, Liskeard.
Entrant numbers are limited to 20 plus an allowance of 20 Albion competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. The race enforces preset cut off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this threshold may be warned and then withdrawn if the standard is not met on consecutive checks. The event is cup free; entrants must bring a reusable cup. Each competitor is provided with a tracking device that includes an SOS function and real time tracking is available to organisers. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. All finishers receive a Hairy Hands medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Entry fees are stated as £90 for the ultra and £155 for the plus race package which includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket.
