MTC Grimalkin

The MTC Grimalkin is an ultra marathon distance event covering 34 miles through the Scottish landscape. The route begins at the Travelodge Perth A9 and concludes at the Atholl Guest House in Pitlochry. This race serves as a standalone single-day challenge and also functions as the fourth day of the Scotia End to End series, a nine-day journey across Scotland.

The course features approximately 3,126 feet of ascent and 2,806 feet of descent. Participants pass through several designated checkpoints located at:

  • Bankfoot (8 miles)
  • Dunkeld (16.4 miles)
  • Pitlochry (24.3 miles)

Strict time restrictions apply, requiring participants to maintain a minimum average pace of 4 mph. This is a cup-free event, meaning runners must carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory safety equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit.

The event organizers provide a tracking device to every competitor to monitor progress and record the movement of the field. While the general route is public, detailed maps and GPX files are sent directly to registered entrants four weeks before the event. All finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and trophies are awarded to male and female champions. The field is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, which include 20 individual race entrants and 20 multi-day series competitors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
