MTC Bodach - Ultra Running
The MTC Bodach is a single-day ultramarathon held as Day 13 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end of Ireland. The advertised race distance is 38 miles (total route length listed as 37.4 miles) with a reported ascent of 2,136 ft and descent of 2,185 ft.
The route starts at the Villa Rose Hotel and Spa, F93 C2CF, and finishes at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, F93 PPH9. Much of the course follows the MizMal® route as supplied by Wild Atlantic Cycling. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed to competitors about four weeks before the event.
Entrant numbers are limited: 20 race entries plus an allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors for a maximum of 40 on the day. All entrants must meet the organiser’s age requirement and fitness standards; the published minimum age for entrants is 20 years on race day. Competitors must carry specified mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
The event enforces time restrictions based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this threshold may be withdrawn. The race is cup-free and finishers receive a bespoke Bodach medal; male and female champions receive trophies. A tracking device with real-time monitoring and SOS function is supplied to entrants.
