Event Overview
The MTC Bodach is a single-day ultra marathon held in Ireland. This point-to-point race covers a total distance of 38 miles with approximately 2,136 feet of total ascent and 2,185 feet of descent. The event serves as the 13th day of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal end-to-end challenge of Ireland. Participants in the single-day race run alongside competitors completing the multi-day series.
Course and Logistics
The route begins at the Villa Rose Hotel and Spa and concludes at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel. Much of the course follows the MizMal route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling. There are three intermediate checkpoints located along the way:
- 9.7 miles: Rann
- 19 miles: County Donegal
- 27.9 miles: Callaghan Tyres

Requirements and Provisions
This is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, first aid kit, and an emergency food pack. The organizer provides tracking devices to monitor progress and for emergency assistance.
Checkpoints offer a variety of food and drink items, which typically include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches (jam, peanut butter, cheese, or marmite), sweets, squash, cola, and water. A minimum pace of 4 mph is required to remain in the event, and cut-off times are enforced at each checkpoint based on this average speed.
All finishers receive a bespoke race medal. Individual trophies are awarded to the male and female champions. Registration is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, including those participating in the full multi-day challenge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
