Event overview

The MTC Carman is a one-day ultra running event on 19 May 2026. The race distance is 38 miles and this is the first edition. It forms one day of the Mount to Coast MizMal 14-day Ireland end-to-end series. Total climb is 1,862 ft and total descent is 1,819 ft. All finishers receive a bespoke Carman medal; male and female champions receive trophies.

Route and logistics

The route starts at the Rolling Wave Guesthouse in Bundoran and finishes at the Villa Rose Hotel and Spa, Ballybofey (F93 C2CF). There are three main intermediate checkpoints:

  • CP1 at 9.8 miles, R231 Ardeelan Lower, Co. Donegal (what3words provided)
  • CP2 at 19.2 miles, Drumgowan, Co. Donegal (what3words provided)
  • CP3 at 29.1 miles, Tawnawully Mountains, Co. Donegal (what3words provided) The event is cup-free; competitors must use a reusable drink cup. Route maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants before the race. Organisers provide tracking devices with real-time tracking and SOS functionality.

Entry, rules and kit

Entries are limited to 20 race-only places plus 20 MizMal competitors, maximum 40. Fees are listed as £90 for the standard entry and £155 for a package that includes an embroidered race shirt and hi-viz jacket (clothing orders need to be placed at least four weeks before the event). All entry fees are non-refundable; a defer option is available for a fee up to four weeks before the race. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the race date. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
