MTC Carman

MTC Carman is a point to point ultra running event in County Donegal with a total distance of about 38.3 miles and recorded climb of approximately 1,862 ft and descent of 1,819 ft. The route starts at the Rolling Wave Guesthouse in Bundoran and finishes at the Villa Rose Hotel and Spa in Ballybofey. Much of the route follows the MizMal route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling and the race forms one day of the multi day MizMal end to end challenge.

Entry is limited to a maximum of 40 competitors, with 20 general places plus an allowance for MizMal participants. All finishers receive a bespoke Carman medal and male and female champions receive trophies; trophies are still in design. Entrants may upgrade to a race package that includes an embroidered shirt and a lightweight hi vis jacket, subject to ordering deadlines.

The event enforces preset cut offs based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold can be withdrawn. The race is cup free so runners must bring a reusable cup. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only, and competitors receive a tracking device with SOS capability for real time monitoring during the event.

Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack. Checkpoint food examples include malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. Entry fees are non refundable, with optional personal cancellation insurance and a defer option available under specified conditions.
