Event Information
The MTC Carman is a 38 mile ultra marathon running race scheduled for 18 May 2027. It is a single-day event starting at the Rolling Wave Guesthouse in Bundoran, Ireland, and finishing at Villa Rose Hotel and Spa in Ballybofey, F93 C2CF.
The race is also Day 12 of the fourteen-day "MTC MizMal" End to End Challenge of Ireland.
Route and Checkpoints
The total distance is 38.3 miles. The course largely follows the established MizMal route, which was originally created by Wild Atlantic Cycling. The route includes three checkpoints (CPs):
- CP1 at 9.8 miles.
- CP2 at 19.2 miles.
- CP3 at 29.1 miles.
The race is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup. Checkpoints will provide food and drink, which may include items like malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola, and water.
Logistics and Requirements
Competitor numbers are limited to 40 total: 20 for the standalone MTC Carman and an additional 20 for participants of the full MizMal challenge. A strict minimum average pace of 4 mph is enforced along the route, and participants falling below this pace risk withdrawal.
A mandatory kit list must be carried by all runners and includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. The organisers will provide each competitor with a tracking device for safety monitoring.
Finisher Rewards and Entry
All finishers receive a bespoke Carman medal. Male and female champions also receive a unique race trophy. Entry fees are non-refundable. There is a standard entry option and a "Plus Race Package" option that includes an embroidered race shirt and a hi-viz jacket if selected at least four weeks before the event.
