About the race
The MTC Carman is a single-day ultra running event covering approximately 38 miles (38.3 miles shown on route data) between Bundoran and Ballybofey in County Donegal, Ireland. The route starts at the Rolling Wave Guesthouse and finishes at the Villa Rose Hotel and Spa. Total ascent is listed at about 1,862 ft with a similar amount of descent.
The event forms Day 12 of the MizMal® fourteen day End to End of Ireland series and follows most of the MizMal® route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 race-only places with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® entrants for a maximum of 40 participants. All finishers receive a bespoke Carman medal and male and female champions receive trophies.
The race uses preset cut-off points based on a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; participants who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. Checkpoints are located approximately every 9 to 10 miles and supply examples of food such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. The event is cup-free so competitors must provide a reusable cup.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Maps, GPX files and competitor tracking are provided to entrants only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
