MTC Black Anise - Ultra Running
The MTC Black Anise is a new for 2029, single-day ultra of 38.1 miles. The route runs from Lancaster to Wigan and follows the same course used by the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances. The race also serves as Day 3 of the MTC ALBION thirteen day end to end of England.
Entry is limited to 20 competitors plus an additional allowance of 20 for ANGLIAN entrants, giving a maximum field of 40. The event is cup-free and competitors must bring a reusable cup. All finishers receive a bespoke Black Anise medal; male and female champions will also receive trophies, which are currently in design.
Organisers require a mandatory kit list that includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. URL issues a tracking device with an SOS function and provides maps and GPX files to entrants by email about four weeks before the race.
The race enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; preset cut-off points are set along the route and falling below the requirement may result in withdrawal. Checkpoints are at predetermined locations and provide food such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. Entry fees are published with a race package option that includes a shirt and hi‑viz jacket for an additional cost. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
