Event

The MTC Black Anise is a one-day ultra running event on 15 July 2027. The course covers approximately 38.1 miles and is listed as Day 3 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day end-to-end series. Total ascent is 1,578 ft and total descent is 1,307 ft. The event is the first edition and competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for ANGLIAN competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. Entrants must be 20 years or over on the start day. Entry fees are listed as £90 for the standard ultra and £155 for the plus package, which includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket; all payments are non-refundable.

Course and logistics

The route runs from Lancaster to Wigan, starting at Premier Inn Lancaster and finishing at Premier Inn Wigan North. There are three intermediate checkpoints: Bay Horse, Preston (about 9.1 miles), 842 Garstang Rd, Barton (about 18.6 miles), and Stanifield Ln (about 28.1 miles). The organisers provide competitor tracking devices with SOS capability and will email maps and GPX files to entrants about four weeks before the event. The race enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this minimum may be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
