MTC Black Anise

Event

The MTC Black Anise is a single-day ultra running event that forms Day 3 of the MTC ALBION end-to-end challenge. The race distance is about 38 miles (total shown as 38.1 miles). This is the first edition of the event. Elevation figures given are 1,578 ft of ascent and 1,307 ft of descent.

Route and logistics

The route follows the same corridor used by the organiser's JOGLE event, running from Lancaster to Wigan. Start and finish locations are listed as Premier Inn Lancaster and Premier Inn Wigan North. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed before the event. The organiser provides competitor tracking devices with real-time tracking and an SOS function. The race is cup-free; competitors are expected to use a reusable cup.

Entry, kit and rules

Competitor entries are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for Anglian competitors (maximum 40). Entry fees are listed as £90 for the race and £155 for a race-plus package that includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket (orders for clothing must be placed at least four weeks before the event to guarantee supply). The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; falling below this minimum may lead to withdrawal. A mandatory kit list includes backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
