MTC Black Anise
The MTC Black Anise is an ultra marathon distance event covering 38 miles through the English countryside. The course begins in Lancaster and concludes in Wigan. This single-day race is part of the "Myths & Legends of England" series and serves as the third day of the multi-day "MTC Albion" challenge, which spans the length of England. Participation is limited to 40 runners in total.
The route follows the same path as the longer JOGLE event but features a specific single-day segment for this race. Participants traverse a course with approximately 1,578 feet of ascent and 1,307 feet of descent. Three checkpoints are located along the route at intervals of approximately 9 to 10 miles.

The event is managed with specific time constraints, requiring participants to maintain a minimum average pace of 4 mph. This is a cup-free event, meaning runners must carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit.
As part of the entry, all finishers receive a bespoke race medal. The organizers provide a tracking device to every competitor, which allows for real-time monitoring of progress and includes an emergency SOS function. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
