About the race
The MTC Aibell is a single-day ultra running event held as Day 14 of the Mount to Coast MizMal® end-to-end series across Ireland. The published route covers 27.5 miles with 1,699 ft of ascent and 1,545 ft of descent, starting at Inishowen Gateway Hotel (F93 PPH9) and finishing at Malin Head. Checkpoints are located on the route with example positions and what3words references provided for CP1 and CP2. Entrant numbers are limited to 20 race-only places, with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors for a maximum of 40 participants.
The organisers apply preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. All entrants must meet the event age requirement and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food, plus a waterproof map case. URL will issue tracking devices to competitors, which provide real-time progress monitoring and an SOS function. Finishers receive an Aibell medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.
Entry fees and a race package option are published, and maps and GPX files are supplied by the organiser to entrants prior to the event. The race operates as a cup-free event so competitors must provide their own reusable cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
