MTC Aibell : race overview
The MTC Aibell is a single-day ultra run held as Day 14 of the Mount to Coast MizMal end-to-end series of Ireland. The published total distance is 27.5 miles with 1,699 ft of ascent and 1,545 ft of descent. This is the first edition listed for the event.
The route starts at Inishowen Gateway Hotel (F93 PPH9) and finishes at Malin Head. There are two intermediate check points listed at roughly 9.3 miles and 18.2 miles. GPX files and route maps are provided to entrants and emailed four weeks before the event. Competitors receive a bespoke Aibell finisher medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.
Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors plus an allowance of 20 MizMal entrants, giving a maximum of 40 competitors. Entry fees are published as £90 for the standard entry and £155 for a plus package that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz race jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. All deposits and payments are non-refundable; a defer option is available for a fee.
The organisers set preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack.
