MTC Aibell

The MTC Aibell is an ultra marathon distance event covering a total of 27.5 miles. This single day challenge is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. It also serves as the fourteenth and final day of the MizMal end to end challenge of Ireland. The route primarily follows the MizMal course provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling, taking participants through northern sections of Ireland to the finish at Malin Head.

The course features an approximate ascent of 1,699 feet and a descent of 1,545 feet. There are two intermediate checkpoints provided along the route:

  • 9.3 miles (Checkpoint 1)
  • 18.2 miles (Checkpoint 2)
  • 27.5 miles (Finish at Malin Head)

Participants must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph. Those falling below this requirement will receive a warning or face withdrawal from the race. The event is designated as cup-free, requiring runners to carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Checkpoints provide various food and drink items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, and water.

All finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and male and female champions are awarded a specific trophy. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. The organizers provide a tracking device for each runner to monitor progress and for emergency assistance.

Entry is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, including those completing the full multi-day series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
