MTC Aibell : event overview
The MTC Aibell is a point-to-point ultra running event held as Day 14 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end of Ireland. The organisers list the total distance as 27.5 miles with 1,699 ft of ascent and 1,545 ft of descent. The published start location is Inishowen Gateway Hotel (F93 PPH9) and the finish is at Malin Head. Two intermediate checkpoints are shown: CP1 on the R244 at 9.3 miles and CP2 at Balleelaghan at 18.2 miles.
Field size is limited to 20 race-only competitors with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors, giving a maximum of 40 on course. The event is cup-free; competitors must carry their own reusable cup. All entrants receive a bespoke Aibell finisher medal; male and female champions receive trophies. Optional race apparel is available as an upgrade at booking.
Organisers set preset cut-off times based on a minimum average of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this average may be withdrawn. Navigation materials and GPX files are provided to entrants only, emailed about four weeks before the event. Competitors are issued tracking devices with real-time monitoring and SOS capability. The entry fee structure and refund policy are published; event fees are non-refundable and personal cancellation insurance can be added at checkout.
