Mt Sopris Run-Off - May 17, 2026
The Mt Sopris Run-Off is a point to point trail running event in Carbondale, Colorado, finishing at Rock Bottom Ranch in Basalt. The event offers two distances and uses the locally known Up & Over single track route across the foothills of Mt. Sopris.
- 10 Mile point to point via Up & Over single track to Rock Bottom Ranch
- 25k point to point via Up & Over single track to Rock Bottom Ranch
Both courses start at Flying Dog Ranch on Prince Creek Road and follow the same initial sequence: 1.75 miles on Prince Creek Road (pavement and dirt), 0.35 miles on Prince Creek Trail, then 0.50 miles on Christmas Tree. At 2.6 miles runners have climbed about 725 feet. The route continues on North Porcupine for about 2.7 miles, then Outie for roughly 1.0 mile before turning onto Buckhorn at about mile 6.3.
The 10 mile course descends Buckhorn through sage fields, losing about 500 feet over 2.4 miles, then continues downhill via switchbacks another 500 feet to the Rio Grande Trail and into the finish area. The 25k diverts onto Buckhorn Traverse for about 4.0 miles, including a 450 foot climb over the last 2.0 miles to Glassier Trail, then a 2.3 mile descent losing roughly 800 feet before a final 1.5 mile section on the Rio Grande Trail into Rock Bottom Ranch.
Logistics include shuttle service between Carbondale and the start, no parking at the start line, and a return shuttle from the finish. The weekend includes a Trail Running Film Festival on the Saturday before the race, film tickets priced differently for registrants and non registrants. A post race meal features locally sourced grass fed hamburgers and a vegetarian option available through registration, and non alcoholic beer is provided for finishers and volunteers. Drop bags are transported from start to finish but organizers are not responsible for valuables. No dogs are allowed at Rock Bottom Ranch. Part or all of the event operates on public lands under permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. There is a cutoff at the third aid station; runners who do not reach it by the cutoff will be directed to the 10 mile course to the finish.
