Mt. Hood Trail Runs
The Mt. Hood Trail Runs is a Pacific Northwest trail event held since 1999 that takes place in summer and offers three distances. Distances available:
- 50 miles (50M)
- 50 kilometers (50K)
- 25 kilometers (25K)
The 50M and much of the 50K follow the heavily shaded Pacific Crest Trail and include views of Mt Hood. The 25K does not use the Pacific Crest Trail; it routes around Clackamas and Timothy Lakes on single-track and double-track trails. The event is known for volunteer support and a traditional, old-school atmosphere.
The start and finish are at the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station near Timothy Lake, about 20 miles south of Mt Hood. Parking is allowed off road on portions of Forest Service Road 42 with posted signs; parking is prohibited at the Pacific Crest Trailhead adjacent to Joe Graham Campground and on FS42 from the event entrance to Joe Graham Campground. Timothy Lake offers more than 150 campsites. Closest campgrounds include Clackamas Lake, Oakfork on Timothy Lake, Gone Creek on Timothy Lake, Pine Point on Timothy Lake, Stone Creek on Timothy Lake, Little Crater Lake, and Hood View on Timothy Lake.
Registration tiers vary by date, races can sell out and a wait list is used when entries fill. There are no transfers and no refunds; cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50 percent credit toward a future race, cancellations 30 days or less receive no credit. Optional shirt preorders close June 1. A Trail Mix Fund is available to assist BIPOC and Queer racers. Runners should expect multi-use trails where horses may be encountered.
