Mt. Hood Trail Runs
The Mt. Hood Trail Runs are a long running Pacific Northwest trail event that began in 1999. The races start and finish at the Historic Clackamas Ranger Station near Timothy Lake, approximately 20 miles south of Mt Hood. Distances offered include:
- 50M
- 50K
- 25K
The 50M is an out and back course that runs almost entirely on the heavily shaded Pacific Crest Trail and includes views of the mountain. The 50K also uses the Pacific Crest Trail and includes sections around Timothy Lake. The 25K does not use the PCT and follows trails such as Headwaters and Old 1916 before circling Timothy Lake; it uses single track and double track trails.
Trails are generally soft but include some technical sections with rocks and roots. The course is on multi use trails where horses may be encountered. The event provides staffed aid stations and volunteer support. Every finisher receives a Mt Hood Trail Runs pint glass. Awards are given for top three men, women, and non binary finishers and age group awards are three deep. Post race offerings have included cooked burgers, drinks, and a raffle.
The event has fixed field sizes for each distance and races typically fill rapidly; wait lists are activated when a distance sells out. Cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50 percent credit toward a future Go Beyond Racing event; cancellations within 30 days receive no credit.
The organizers acknowledge that the races occur on the traditional homelands of the Molalla Tribe, Tenino Tribe, and the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
