About the race
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is a winter trail race held at Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill on January 16, 2027. The event uses a roughly 4 mile loop on park trails; participants may complete one, two, or three loops.
- One loop: 4 miles
- Two loops: 8 miles
- Three loops: 12 miles
Registration carries a $25 fee plus $3.50 in UltraSignup fees, with no planned price increases. A snowshoe race is added for 2027; if conditions do not permit the snowshoe event, registrants may choose one of the running loop options instead.
The race is the second event in the Common Ground Winter Trail Series, organized in collaboration with several local groups. Race headquarters is at Wilson Lodge in Ontario County Park. Parking is available next to the lodge and park roads and parking will be plowed if needed. The main park road is one-way, counter-clockwise.
The course visits much of the park while avoiding the western slope where snow drifts can be deep. The race day course may change because of trail or weather conditions. Organizers recommend footwear for snowy or icy conditions, such as shoes with aggressive tread, traction or microspikes, and gaiters. Participants may bring Nordic skis, sleds, or fatbikes. Post-race amenities include a heated lodge with a fireplace, restrooms suitable for changing, pancakes with maple syrup, hot beverages, hot chocolate, warm cider, cold hydration options, fruit, and snacks.
