Mrs. McCormick's Ice House : January 16, 2027
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is a winter trail race held at Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill. The race uses a roughly four mile loop through much of the park while avoiding the western slope where snow drifts can accumulate. The course on race day may be adjusted for trail or weather conditions.
Participants choose how many loops to complete. Distances offered:
- 4 mile loop, one lap
- 8 mile option, two laps
- 12 mile option, three laps
A snowshoe race is added for 2027 and will run if conditions permit. If the snowshoe is canceled due to conditions, snowshoe registrants may select one of the running options. Entry fee is $25 plus $4.37 in UltraSignup fees with no price increases announced.
Race headquarters is at Wilson Lodge in Ontario County Park. Parking is available next to Wilson Lodge and park roads and parking will be plowed if needed. The main park road is one-way, counter-clockwise.
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is the second event in the Common Ground Winter Trail Series. Series registrants receive several bonuses including a free entry into the Go Forth event, series merchandise, and entry into a random draw for FarFetched Mug Club membership.
Post-race offerings include a heated lodge with a fireplace and restrooms, freshly made buckwheat pancakes with Naples Maple Farm syrup, hot chai, hot chocolate with a Skratch Recovery option, Skratch hydration, fresh fruit, and snacks. Footwear with aggressive tread, traction, microspikes, and gaiters are suggested. Nordic skis, sleds, and fatbikes are welcome and those users will be offered pancakes and hot beverages.
