Mountain Mist
Mountain Mist is the 33rd annual trail race held on January 23, 2027 in Huntsville, Alabama, at Monte Sano State Park. The event is organized by the Huntsville Track Club and is contested over a 50K course that uses the same layout as the previous year.
The course runs on rocky mountain single track with mud and creek crossings and about 4,300 feet of total climb. Runners encounter a steep section on the Waterline Trail that requires the use of the upper body and a rugged final six miles through McKay Hollow. The route includes multiple aid stations and major check points and a GPX course file is available for navigation.
Registration opens online on October 1 and the field is limited to 525 accepted runners; registration closes on January 16. There are no refunds, no race day registration, no entry transfers, and no deferals. Race management may deny entry to participants who do not demonstrate an appropriate background in endurance activities. Time limits are strictly enforced with several checkpoints and enforced cutoffs to meet park rules.
Packet pickup is at Monte Sano Lodge the day before the race with limited pickup available the morning of the event. Medical and evacuation support is provided by local rescue teams.
