The 5-Mile Race is USATF certified (CA19031RS) and is described as mostly flat with an uphill climb in the final mile. The field can approach one thousand entrants. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each division, and all finishers receive medals.
The 2-Mile Youth Race is for runners under 18. Ribbons are presented to the top three finishers in each division, and all youth finishers receive medals.
The 2-Mile Fun Walk features entertainment along the route and is noted as a popular family activity.
Registration fees vary by period. Early registration (April 3–June 10) and regular registration (June 10–July 2) carry lower rates than late registration at Parker Plaza on July 3 and July 4. Race t-shirts are optional and must be added during registration by June 10; t-shirt orders are not accepted after that date. Entry fees and early t-shirt orders are non-refundable. Optional registration insurance is available through PROTECHT.
Packet pickup and late registration occur at Parker Plaza on July 3 and the morning of July 4. The event organizer Mountain Runners is a founding project of the Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance, a regional outdoor recreation nonprofit collaboration.
