Dess Woods night race : 22 January 2026
The event is a club-organised night race held at Deeside Activity Park, Dess, Aboyne AB34 5BN on 22 January 2026. The course distance is 8.2 km with 240 m climb. Minimum age for entry is 16. Entry can be pre-registered online for free and payment is taken when numbers are collected; there is a small entry fee on the day. Results from past years are available.
Course and logistics
Runners will need a good headtorch and are required to carry full body cover, a map and a compass; a spare torch is recommended. The route includes a steep climb, running over grassy fields (the right-hand loop), a loop on mostly single-track paths in the woods with another steep section (the left-hand loop), a repeat of the first loop, and a fast descent to the finish. The course will be marked with reflective flags.
The event is sponsored by Out & Back Store, Moonlight Mountain Gear and VJ Shoes, who will provide test headtorches and footwear at the races and prizes for the series winners. Registration and prize giving are at the Deeside Activity Park. A cafe on site will serve hot drinks and food; cash may be needed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
