Event Overview
The Mortimer Forest Trail Race is a multi-terrain event held in Mortimer Forest, situated on the border of Herefordshire and Shropshire. The race takes place in a woodland setting during the winter season, offering participants a choice of two distances that traverse varied terrain including mud and hills. Both routes conclude with a descent from the summit of High Vinnalls, providing views of the Welsh Marches, the Malvern Hills, and the Brecon Beacons.
Distance Options
Participants can choose between two distinct routes:
- 10 miles: A multi-terrain course featuring the Rock Garden and a climb to High Vinnalls.
- 4 miles: A shorter route that utilizes larger tracks and omits some of the longer muddy sections.
Course Details
The race routes are fully marshalled and signed for navigation. Due to forestry works, the courses utilize an alternative layout that avoids the Bringewood side but maintains the climb to High Vinnalls. The routes start at the Blackpool carpark, which is a short walk from the event headquarters.
Logistics and Facilities
Race headquarters and parking are located at Moor Park School in Ludlow. As parking space is limited, car sharing or the use of public transport is encouraged. Locally handmade bespoke medallions are available for a separate fee and are limited to the first 100 participants. This event is held on Forestry England land and is permitted by The Association of Running Clubs. Dogs are not permitted on the course.
