Moonlight on the Falls - Marathon
Moonlight on the Falls is a nighttime running event held at Blackwater Falls State Park in Tucker County, West Virginia on August 29-30, 2026. The event uses an all‑paved looped course that begins and ends at Pendleton Point and is organized as multiple laps of an approximately 6.55 mile loop.
Distances
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles)
- Distance Challenge with solo and team relay options
The quarter distance equals one loop, the half is two loops, and the marathon is four loops. In 2026 the route will not descend to the falls; the start and finish will be on the grass at Pendleton Point and the course will be run on the right side of the road. Aid stations are placed to provide four aid points per lap at about 1.0, 3.1, 5.4, and 6.55 miles; each aid location includes two porta‑johns and additional portos are available at the Lodge and Blackwater Falls. Distance Challenge participants may set up a personal aid station within the first or last mile and on‑course parking is permitted for that purpose.
Packet pickup and pre‑race activities on Saturday will include live music, vendors, and food; a Friday pickup location is scheduled but listed as TBD. Cell signal in the park is limited. All participants are required to wear a reflective vest or similar gear and to carry a headlamp. Race swag includes a long‑sleeve triblend T‑shirt and a finisher medal.
