Event overview
The Moonlight on the Falls event takes place August 29-30, 2026 at Blackwater Falls State Park in Tucker County, West Virginia. The event includes these distances:
- Marathon : 26.2 miles
- Half Marathon : 13.1 miles
- Quarter Marathon : 6.55 miles (one loop)
- Distance Challenge : Solo and Team relay options (2, 4, 6 person)
The Distance Challenge is scored by total laps completed. Team entries are set up by a captain who provides a password for additional teammates; each relay member registers and pays individually. All Distance Challenge team members receive timing chips on their bibs.
Course and logistics
The course is an all-paved, mostly out-and-back loop that begins and ends at Pendleton Point. Quarter equals one loop, half equals two loops, and marathon equals four loops. Due to trail conditions in 2026 the route will not go down to the falls, the start/finish will be on the grass at Pendleton Point, and the course will use a "stay right" rule. Aid stations are located at about miles 1, 3.1, 5.4, and 6.55; each aid station will have two porta-johns and additional portos will be at the Lodge and Blackwater Falls.
Packet pickup is scheduled on the days before the race and will include live music, vendors, and food. All participants are required to wear a reflective vest or similar gear and carry a headlamp. Distance Challenge participants may set up personal aid stations in the first mile and on-course parking is allowed for that purpose. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
