Trail Running in the Dark
The Moonlight Meander is a night-time running event that takes place at the Swinsty & Fewston Reservoir near Otley. Participants navigate a course through the woods in pitch-black conditions, requiring the use of head-torches or other portable light sources such as lanterns or fairy lights. The event features two distance options:
- 3.3 miles
- 6.7 miles
The course consists of a loop on good trail terrain with an undulating elevation profile. To assist runners in the dark, the route is fully signed and supported by marshals. Information from participant experiences indicates that feed and drink stations are positioned approximately every 3 miles along the route.
Facilities and Registration
The event hub is located at the Swinsty & Fewston Reservoir Car Park. Parking is available on-site in a public pay-and-display area, which is co-located with the registration point. Public toilets are accessible within the car park area.
All participants who complete their chosen distance receive a bespoke medal. The event also provides a variety of treats and snacks at the finish line. The race for the longer distance is open to those aged 17 and over, while the shorter distance is open to participants aged 16 and over.
