Event Overview

The Moonlight Bootlegger 5k is a nighttime trail running event held at Maybury State Park in Northville, Michigan. This race, which has been organized annually since 2012, takes place after dark and is inspired by the Prohibition era. Participants navigate a course guided by headlamps and over 300 tea lights placed along the route.

The event offers the following categories:

  • 5k (3.1 miles) for participants 21 and older
  • 5k (3.1 miles) for participants under 21
  • Spectator registration

Course Details

The course consists of a mix of wide trails and flowing singletrack. Because the race takes place at night, all runners are required to provide their own headlamp to participate. The path is marked to facilitate navigation through the woods under the moon and artificial candlelight.

Event Features

The finish line features live bluegrass music and a post-race celebration. Participants receive a soft gender-specific tech shirt and a commemorative mason jar glass. For those of legal age, registration includes tickets for moonshine cocktails, while those under 21 or those opting for mocktails can use their tickets for non-alcoholic beverages. Spectators who register also receive a mason jar and beverage tickets to enjoy the music and atmosphere. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
