About the race
Mooloolaba Triathlon is a standard-distance triathlon held in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. The event uses a beach swim start, a coastal run course along the Esplanade, and an out-and-back bike course along the Sunshine Coast Motorway.
The race distances are:
- Swim: 1.5 km
- Bike: 40 km
- Run: 10 km
The swim is a 1500 m flag-shaped course that starts from the eastern end of Mooloolaba Main Beach and runs anti-clockwise with a first turn buoy at about 350 metres. The bike is a 40 km out-and-back course with a short climb out to the motorway, a turnaround at 20 km, and a return to transition on mostly flat sealed roads. The run is a two-lap clockwise route along coastal sections of the Esplanade offering coastal views.
Categories include age-group divisions, Athenas and Clydesdales classes, Open with qualifying race-time requirements, and paratriathlete participation. Relay team categories cover Open, Masters 40+, Corporate or Club, and Family or Friends, with specific check-in and entry rules for teams. Minimum ages are specified for individual and team entries and age for categories is determined by age on 31 December 2026 for the 2026–2027 season.
