Mogollon Monster
The Mogollon Monster is a weekend trail event near Pine, Arizona on the Mogollon Rim. It offers two distances and runs across varied terrain along the Rim with large elevation changes and multiple aid stations.
- 100 Mile, approx 102.3 miles, 15,900 ft gain, 38 hour limit
- 42K, 26.7 miles, 4,554 ft gain, 12 hour limit
The 100 mile course is point to point along the Rim and includes six separate climbs onto the Rim. Elevations range roughly from about 5,200 to 8,000 feet. The route uses singletrack, forest roads, and named trails such as the Highline, Donahue, Myrtle, Promontory and Fred Haught. The terrain is described as technical in many sections with rocks, switchbacks and steep grades; some climbs and descents reach 30 to 45 percent at points.
Logistics include shuttles and a point to point finish in the town of Pine. Drop bag locations are provided at several aid stations including Fish Hatchery, Buck Springs and Geronimo for the 100 mile event. Crew and pacer access is allowed only at designated crew zones for the 100 mile race; the 42K has no crew or pacer access. Entry standards include a minimum prior completion of a 50 mile race for 100 mile entrants and an eight hour volunteer service requirement or a trail organization donation option.
