MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra : Loudy Simpson Park, Craig, Colorado
The MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra is a community-run endurance event at Loudy Simpson Park along the Yampa River. Runners complete a 4.167 mile loop each hour, on the hour, repeating the loop until only one runner remains. If a participant misses a loop start or does not finish a loop within the hour, they are eliminated.
A Citizens Race offers a single loop option on the same course for runners, walkers, and community members who want to experience the route without repeated loops.
The course is primarily dirt trail with a small amount of pavement, passing shaded tree-lined sections, riverside trail, several small bridges, and open park trail sections. The start/finish area and main aid station are located near the park ice arena, and serve as the runner camp between loops. Aid includes water, snacks, rest space, and basic first aid. Crew access is allowed in designated areas.
Race rules follow the Backyard Ultra format: all runners start each loop together, loop completion must occur within one hour, and the final solo completion determines the event winner. Runners must provide their own lighting after dark. Medical support will be available; participants run at their own risk.
