Event overview

The 2026 MLK Day 5k & 10k takes place on January 19, 2026 at MLK Recreational Park, 1120 Jackson Rd, Silver Spring, MD. The event offers an in-person chip-timed 5k and 10k and a virtual race option. The course is a paved route around the park that extends onto the Paint Branch Trail and includes a few rolling hills. Proceeds benefit Semper Fi and America’s Fund. Points from the event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k & Back of the Pack Series and the Winter Series.

Race details

5k : one water station at approximately mile 1.55.
10k : three water stations at approximately miles 1.55, 3.1, and 4.65.

Runners receive a finisher medal and a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt; shirts are guaranteed for registrations completed before January 7. Race day registration is available; same-day registrants may not receive guaranteed shirt sizes. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall, and to first and second place in age groups 19&Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Top-three overall finishers are not eligible for age-group awards.

Live results are posted on Athlinks with final results and series points published the Monday after the race. Photos taken by staff will be posted to the event Facebook page by the Tuesday after the event. The organizer runs events in all weather; officials may delay, change, or postpone the race if needed.
