Event details
The Mizuno Midsummer 5km is a 15th annual hybrid event held in July 2026. The race offers both an in-person option at Goldbar Park and a virtual option. Virtual participants may submit GPS-tracked runs and may enter multiple 5 km attempts between Thursday July 9 and Sunday July 12; the fastest submitted time will be used as the entry. Registration for the 2026 event is capped at 800 participants. Participants will be emailed a form to record results.
Prizes, swag and beneficiaries
All participants receive a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider shoes (women’s sizes 6-11 and men’s sizes 8-12) and a pair of GoodR sunglasses, with a stated retail value of over $200. Mizuno will provide prizes for the top three finishers in each age group: U20, 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. The in-person event will also offer cash prizes of $200, $100 and $50 for the fastest three open runners and the fastest three women. Virtual entrants must submit GPS tracking to be eligible for age-group prizes. Proceeds support the Concordia Thunder cross-country and indoor track teams and other events across Alberta. The organizer plans a Facebook event page and will give away 12 pairs of GoodR sunglasses to people who post photos there wearing the provided shoes and sunglasses; one prize per person.
