The event is a two-day fundraiser focused on research into spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). SCAD is described as a little known cause of heart attack that disproportionately affects women under 50, pregnant women, and new mothers, and it can also affect men. Research is needed to identify causes and treatment options.
The weekend includes a 5K trail fun run/walk at Battle Creek Regional Park on winding trails through natural areas. The 5K event features a community atmosphere with kids activities, a playground, vendors including a SCAD store, race snacks, a brief welcome highlighting sponsors and survivors, race bib distribution, and medals for participants. A discount code is available for a limited time and registering by April 10 guarantees a t-shirt.
A separate SCAD Social Reunion and dinner will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton St. Paul East. The reunion includes a presentation of recent research findings by a Mayo Clinic cardiology specialist and a question period, plus an included adult dinner and a kids meal. Dinner reservations have an advance deadline.
The event program also lists sponsorship opportunities at multiple levels, vendor participation in exchange for a donation, and a range of volunteer roles including setup, registration, food and drink stations, cleanup, and photography.
