Run for a Cause in Minneapolis
The Miles That Matter 5k is an annual run and walk event organized by the Augsburg Physician Associate (PA) Program. The event takes place in Minneapolis, with the start and finish lines located at Thomas Beach. Participants complete a single loop around the perimeter of Bde Maka Ska. The course primarily utilizes sidewalks and features a flat profile with a total elevation gain of approximately 36 feet.
The event offers several registration categories:
- Miles That Matter 5k
- Miles That Matter 5k (Student)
- 12 and Under Miles That Matter 5k
The race serves as a fundraiser for the International Institute of Minnesota, an organization established in 1919 to assist immigrants and refugees with resettlement, education, and citizenship. Proceeds also support the Augsburg PA student society.
Participants receive a racing T-shirt as part of their registration. Amenities include a water station at the halfway point, refreshments at the finish line, and access to on-site portable toilets. A first-aid station staffed by medical professionals is available at the Thomas Beach area. While official timing bibs are not provided, a large race clock is positioned at the finish line for self-timing.
Strollers and children are welcome at the event, but pets are not permitted. Street parking is available along West Bde Maka Ska Parkway and adjacent streets, with limited paid parking at the Thomas Beach lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
