The Newtown Savings Bank Mile Down the Pike is a timed road race held in Monroe, Connecticut. The event takes place on the same day as the Monroe Memorial Day parade, utilizing the parade route on the Monroe Turnpike. Participants run the course after the roads have been closed to vehicle traffic but before the official parade procession begins.

Course Details

The race covers a distance of 1 mile on a point-to-point road course. The route is characterized by a swift downhill section. The race begins at Firemen's Field and concludes at the intersection of Elm Street and Cross Hill. Spectators gathering for the parade typically line the route to watch the runners.

Logistics and Participation

Participants are expected to complete the mile within 15 minutes. The race is held rain or shine, though severe weather may lead to cancellation or a change in location. Refreshments are provided at the finish line located at 450 Monroe Turnpike.

The first 140 registrants who sign up by May 21 are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers, as well as winners in specific age groups. Registration is available online, and race day registration is conducted via mobile device using credit card payments only. Packet pickup is scheduled for the day prior to the race at Century Plaza.
