Michael Hanly 5K
The Michael Hanly 5K is a memorial running event organized by the DSNY Running Club, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. It honors a sanitation worker who died after inhaling hazardous chemicals while on duty and remembers other fallen sanitation members.
The event takes place at Freshkills North Park, 350 Wild Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. The main offering is a professionally timed community 5K run and walk. Race packet pick-up is available only on the day of the event. After expenses, proceeds support families of sanitation workers who have experienced similar tragedies.
A short kids race is included for ages 9 and under and does not require prior registration. Volunteer roles include registration, bib pick-up, raffles, on-course directions, and water stations; a volunteer meeting is scheduled for May 17. Parking will be available along East Service Road, Wild Ave, and in nearby bowling alley parking lots, with signs and volunteers to assist.
Race pricing is tiered by date: before April 1 the fee is $35, April 1 through May 30 the fee is $40, and race-day registration is $50. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
