Mental Health Matters 5k Walk/Run for Awareness
The Mental Health Matters event is a timed 5K walk and run hosted by All Souls Counseling Center on the UNC Asheville campus in Asheville, NC. The 2026 event adds professional chip timing. Two course options are offered: a route on the UNCA campus and a route around the Karl Straus Track.
A community Health and Resource Fair will run alongside the walk and run and will feature mental health and wellness organizations from across the region. All proceeds support All Souls Counseling Center’s work providing accessible counseling for underinsured and uninsured adults in Western North Carolina.
Logistics and amenities noted by the organizer include water and snacks provided, a recommendation to bring a reusable water bottle, allowance of strollers, and no pets except for service animals on the campus route. The first 400 registrants will receive an event T-shirt; sizes cannot be exchanged on the day. Packet pickup will be available the day before at the Asheville Chamber of Commerce with a drive-through option. UNC Asheville requires paid parking; the posted cost as of April 28, 2026 is $3 and the campus portal accepts advance payment by license plate.
Registration follows tiered pricing with free entry for ages 22 and under. Registration fees are non-refundable and the event will proceed rain or shine. Awards include a $50 gift card for the top finisher in each gender division and eco-friendly medals for the top three finishers in each age group. Award winners must be present to receive prizes. Age groups are 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
