Event Overview

The Memorial Day Hero Salute is an annual event held on Memorial Day at Town Center Park in Kingwood, Texas. It is the second annual event. The purpose is to honor military heroes and their families. Funds are raised for partner charities, which include Semper Fi & Americas Fund, Impact a Hero, and We Run for Him.

Events and Activities

Participants can choose from several in-person and virtual events:

  • MURPH Hero Race (a timed event consisting of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air-squats, and a final 1-mile run)
  • LOREDO Hero Race (a timed event consisting of six rounds of 24 air-squats, 24 push-ups, 24 lunges, and a 0.25-mile run)
  • Half Marathon (21.1 km)
  • 10K (10 km)
  • 5K (5 km)
  • Kids Mini-Salute for participants aged 10 and under (a timed event consisting of a 0.25-mile run, 12 air-squats, 12 push-ups, 12 sit-ups, and a final 0.25-mile run)
  • Virtual versions of the MURPH, LOREDO, Half Marathon, and 5K events
  • A "Volunteer then Run" discounted registration option for the Loredo and 5k events

A post-race Kids and Winners Tug-of-War competition is planned. Pre-race activities include music and sponsor/vendor booths.

Participant Information

All event participants receive a custom race shirt, finisher medal, and race bib. Awards are given for top finishers in various categories, including overall, masters, grand masters, and age groups for most events. Overall award winners receive a free invitation to race the following year. A limited-quantity "Exclusive MDHS Swag Pack" is also available.

A "Volunteer then Run" option involves helping with packet pick-up and post-race tasks. Full race volunteers receive race swag and one free entry to a future event by the same organizer.

Packet pick-up is available on the Saturday before the event at two locations in Kingwood and on race day at Town Center Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
