Event Overview

The 5th Annual March for Meals is a community-oriented sports event held at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids. The event supports the health and independence of older adults across West Michigan. Participants navigate a course that passes through fields, wetlands, and woods. The event proceeds regardless of weather conditions, including rain, snow, or shine.

Participants can choose from several event formats:

  • 5K Run: A 3.1-mile timed race.
  • 2-Mile Community Walk: A distance for walking, scooting, or rolling.
  • Virtual walk/run: A remote participation option where individuals map their own routes.

Course and Participation Details

The physical routes are located at the Grant Pavilion in Millennium Park. Both the walk and the 5K run utilize a loop within the park, with the 5K extending further into the natural areas. The event is open to individuals of all ages and abilities. Registration is free for children aged seven and under. Friendly dogs on a leash are permitted to attend, and there is an option to purchase a finisher medal for canine participants.

Recognition and Amenities

The 5K run includes competitive awards for the top three overall male and female finishers. Age group awards are also provided for the top male and female runners in categories ranging from under 10 to 70+. Additionally, prizes are awarded for the youngest and oldest participants, as well as for the best food-themed costumes for adults, children, and dogs.

On-site registration includes a timing bib, a race shirt, and a finisher medal. Participants may choose to opt out of the shirt for a reduced registration fee. Free parking is available at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
