The Micro: Breaking 4

The Micro: Breaking 4 is a marathon event located in Millennium Park, Walker, Michigan, just southwest of Grand Rapids. The race is part of a series designed to provide a controlled performance environment focused on achieving specific time standards. This flat, 26.2 mile course is USATF certified and eligible for Boston Marathon qualification.

The event is specifically tailored for runners aiming to finish within the 3:20 to 4:00 time range. To support these performance goals, the course features a marked tangent line to ensure participants run the exact legal distance without unnecessary extra yardage. The route is also designed to be spectator-friendly, allowing crew and supporters to access athletes every 4 miles.

Participants have access to several in-race amenities typically reserved for elite fields:

  • Marathon (26.2 miles)

The race provides dedicated pace groups for 3:25, 3:35, 3:45, and 4:00 finishing times. A unique feature of this event is the personal bottle stations located every 4 miles, where athletes can access their own specific fuel and fluids. Registration includes access to technical meetings and communication with race directors through email and video calls leading up to the race. All finishers receive a medal, and those who successfully break the 4-hour barrier receive a limited-edition heavyweight finisher t-shirt.
